Sound Effects
This is another sound effect that I have found. This is a sound effect that is using short with only being nine seconds. This is an effect sound as it gets louder as well as it building up tension, this can easily be used within the trailer as at the end the effect I could put something unexpected, as this is what the effect sounds like what it should do. Within my trailer I hope to use sound effects as I believe they have a great impact on the overall trailer.
Sound Effects
Choosing to create a trailer I have went in to researching sound effects, as I believe that the sound effects add to the tense feeling that the viewer would feel along with the trailer itself. Sound effects are put in the background to highlight what you see within the trailer at the time, therefore linking in with each other. I chose this sound effect as I think it would easily contribute within the genre of the trailer.
Poster and Tilte Font Ideas.

The Haunting in Connecticut Trailer

This is the film poster that links in with the teaser trailer below. This poster is effective and has an impact on the viewer, as it states that it is 'based on a true events'. This makes the on looker on edge as they now know, before watching anything to do with the film, that is based on true events and this will add to them feeling insecure and vulnerable. As well as the main image that is something unnatural and scary, the whole image is effective as the main character is young boy and therefore people will look upon him as vulnerable, the effect of something coming out of the child's mouth also adds to the feeling the viewer has towards the young boy. The use of dark shades of colour adds the grim, scary effect, as dark tones relate to dark emotion, this looks effective and as the use of white font for the writing, which is showed in different sizes, clearly stands out therefore it is eye-catching to the viewer bringing there attention to the small font above the main title, the phrase 'Some things cannot be explained' and how this is centered - this is a good layout. Whilst all eyes are focusing on the boy, the word 'haunting' has been displayed in large font, this is effective as everyone understands the meaning of 'haunting' and therefore the whole poster puts the viewer on edge. This is something I wont to carry on in my work.
This trailer is very effective and clearly shows the amount different incidents that happens within the film. The most effective thing about the whole trailer is the continuous voice over, and the use of the reason why this trailer is effective as it shows a sort of before and after effect how the main characters are shown searching the house, as well as showing the scenes of where the characters are describing the house history, therefore the audience no what to aspect, making them feel alone and vulnerable. I believe the most effective parts of the trailer is when the editing is varied from jump cuts to normal pace, but you notice that towards the end this is where the jump cuts are mostly used. Also the use of sound effects are effective as this adds to what you see at the trailer, at the time. Sound effects are put there to add more dramatic and atmospheric sense towards the trailer as you watch it, and I truly think that this trailer successfully make you feel on edge and in a way leaves you asking the question what happens next, this is something I want to take on through to my teaser trailer.
The Strangers Theatrical Trailer
This poster for The Strangers is different to others I thought because of the way it also involves a subtitle 'Because you were home' this is effective as it is direct to the audience and already puts you on edge without watching the film, or even looking at the rest of the poster. Also I like the way the film name 'the strangers' is presented, how the words have a shadowed, blurred effect on the jet black background, this makes it stand out and eye catching to the on-looker. The main image tells a story within itself, and the prop of using masks adds to the horror genre, as masks could be linked to suspicion and also the aspect of you cant see the face, gives the audience a sense of insecurity. This poster is very effective in the way that it brings in the audience with the subtitle and the use of the masks as you don't see masks generally used in horror genre of films/posters.Wednesday, 2 November 2011
Ancilltary Task, - Magazine re-search
This is the mast-head, the font of writing is large, bold and clear, the use of red text makes it stand and makes the writing 'pop' from the rest of the cover, as here the background in deep shades of blue therefore its eye-catching. This will be something I carry on into my own work.

Planning
My group (James Pemberton, Abbie Garland) have come up with a solid storyline for our teaser trailer, which is based on a paranormal documentary, where the main character Alex Thomas is leading Rosy Reeves and Sam Douglas-Jones altogether 'a ghost hunting group' within a surgery desperate to find ghostly connections. Through out the research stages we have collected ideas on how the teaser trailer will be presented and which clips would be most effective. Therefore we have come up with what shots we will take, what angle we will use and lighting, this area is proven on the images. As well as using images we are using text to build up a sense of insecurity and tense atmosphere which involves the audience more.

This image show the areas of the production for our horror teaser trailer. We have arranged who is within the teaser trailer, we decided on using three characters two boys and one girl, as we think that is a good number of people, as well as having it more boy dominated I think this is more effective as it may show the innocence and vulnerability of the girl. Also we have organised the equipment we are using , wardrobe (sticking to dark clothes which reflects the atmosphere), lighting (dark, gloomy) and props.
This image clearly show the planning we all did to come to a final decision on film name. We created mind-map with all the ideas we had for creepy film names that relate to a paranormal adventure. We come up with many and as a group we highlighted the names we think most fit in our genre of film like 'beyond' 'no escape' 'not alone'. From their we come up with different names involving the previous names we liked to come up with one final film name.
The opotions we had for our final film name were:
- Look beyond the obvious
- Hollow grounds
- Your not alone
- Lights out
- Unknown void
- The senseless
From here it is clear that we made a tally chart of what different people all around the Sixth Form vited on which name they perffered and attracted them, this happend to be 'The Senseless' but was closely followed by 'Unkown Void'. So throught out this section we have come up with a final film name and the key areas of filming.

grave encounters trailor
This poster for the Grave Encounters is effective due to the use of the dominant two colours, black and green. I believe they did this as the film is based in the night time so gives the effects of 'night mode' on the camera. The main picture they have as well is good as it gives the sense of being alone and neglected, with all the tense atmosphere around. The camera placed on the ground in the direction of the actor has a significant meaning because the viewers already know that the film is a documentary film. The opening section of trailer is very catching and unexpected so it brings the viewer in to the trailer. The edit of quick/jump effect, makes the beginning of the trailer dramatic even though you can tell it is daylight. Also the story line is clearly shown as the main character announces "Welcome to another episode of Grave Encounters", this leaves the audience feels tense as the whole scene with the old fashioned house behind him, they would feel on edge to what was going to happen next. A really good and effective edit is how they have flicked straight from daylight to the dark of the night, which makes the viewer have an different emotion to the trailer making them feel insecure as the voice over describes the history of the building, the text 'Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital Ryerson valley' also adds to the insecurity of the film as the viewer now knows what they are going to expect. The use of camera angles, such as panning and following makes the whole psychiatric hospital seem a lot more creepy and edge. The way6 the edits flick back and forth from the hospital now, to clips from the past is effective as it makes the viewer no that this place will hold major paranormal activity. The special sound effect makes the viewer feel vulnerable, as all aspects are combined as well as the use of night mode in the trailer. The build up at the end of trailer involving jump cuts and speed up effect makes the viewer lead into the unknown, as they do not no what to aspect. the scream to nothing is very effective as it lead into voices whilst you look at the black background with the title in white writing, which is centered makes the viewer vulnerable, the ending scene is extremely effective as it leaves the viewer on edge.

One Missed Call - Horror Movie- Trailer 2008 - Remake
This is the film poster that goes with the film trailer. This poster is very effective as the subtitle 'what will it sound like when you die?' is a rhetorical question, as no one will know what it sounds like, this is why this poster has an impact on the viewers as it leaves them thinking. But the main focus is the centered image, with the background being jet black the main image stands out even more. The image also gets the viewers thinking, as it is not obvious that the eyes of the 'creature' is two peoples mouths, this adds and edge to the poster as plays with the viewers mind.Tuesday, 5 July 2011
"Insidious": Official Trailer
As well as looking at Horror movie trailers, part of our A2 work is to create an poster. This is one linked to Insidious. This poster is effective as it uses dark colours, even where the boys top is meant to be red, it over taken over by deep shades of the red. Its also effective how the whole poster reflects on the film, for example the clouds used for the weather suggest gloomy. Over all it is a good poster to be used even though it shows the main focus of the film, The house and the main character, the boy with his eyes edited to look abnormal. This is another trailer focusing on the genre of horror. I like the flicker of words at the beginning of the teaser, before clips of the film are used, I also like the sound effects put in with the words as it creates an atmosphere. The use of quick cutting within this teaser trailer also adds to the build of tension in wanting to know what is going to happen, as well as making the viewer feel on edge.
