Research - The Strangers Teaser Trailer (HD)

To Begin with I really like the effect of the 'ticking' noise which links with the editing of each changing slide, as well as the effect of it sliding down from the top then leaving going down. I think this whole idea adds tension and is making the audience on edge from he very start with the effective quotes such as ' Most people choose a home, for the neighborhood, or the schools, or the size, but some people, choose a house, for a completely, different, reason.' This is like a story being told which makes the audience guess what is going to happen next, but most of all within this section of the teaser the music in the background sets the scene and the sound effects create the atmosphere. It begins with the establishing shot something I think is effective as then the audience now know that the house they are in, is by itself in the forest. The way in which it then goes silent to the loud banging at the door would make the audience jump back, this is where the sound effect of the wind comes in creating an edge to the trailer, but focusing on the innocent couple throughout most of the trailer questions who is it that is actually tormenting with them?. From here this is where the teaser trailer uses jump cuts and effects showing parts of the film which would grab the attention of audience even more, I really like how its gone back to the same effect as what it began with, the 'clip' effect ending on tense note. From these two teaser trailer I have learnt a lot from what areas to include and how to present my own teaser trailer.

This is the teaser poster for The Strangers, previously I have researched into the official poster for the film, here you can see the differences, like a different image and how involves one victim and the one that is tormenting the Innocent couple. The effects of the teaser poster leaves the on looker feeling on edge questioning themselves to who that is in the back right hand corner, emerging from the darkness. Over all I like how the poster is set on location of the film and how it shows the victim, which is what I have successfully done in my own poster.

Specfiic research into teaser trailer - The Woman In Black - Official Teaser Trailer (HD version)

The Women In Black is one of the teaser trailer I have focused on for my own project as well as combining what I have learnt from the other research I have done about full trailers. In this teaser trailer I like how it begins with blackness and just the audio, this creates an atmosphere to begin with, which already has en effect on the audience, the specific sound of wind passing by sets the scene. Another area I like is how it is cut with the sound of the wind carrying on through out the beginning of the trailer, leading into the sound of the ticking noise, which is linked with the exact time of the cut. The talk over of the little girl telling a story, would make the audience feel on edge but also drawn more to the trailer as little girls are represented as cute innocent children. The ending of the trailer is effective how it speeds up about half way through the trailer, which would make the audience in effect hold their breath as they don't no what is too come next, to back to normal cutting pace which adds more effect over all as it leads back into the beginning sounds of the wind. I like all parts of this teaser trailer. I will try and attempt adds much of these within my own teaser trailer.

I thought I would research into teaser posters as previously I have focused on the official trailer poster. Beginning with The Women In Black poster, you can see that they have edited it in a way that relates to the whole film. This was done by the way in which the main charter is the main focus, stands out really well which is what I have done. Also the way the title of the film has the blurred effect is again shows a link to the film, as it gives a sense of ghostly atmosphere. This is something I took on myself thinking ahead of what effect of the title I would choose, and think it linked rather well with the plot of the film as is it mysterious looking, with how it is placed on different levels. The use of black is effective as it related to darkness and horror, something which I have also used.

Final Magazine

This is the final magazine front cover. I created this in Photoshop, so their fore I had many different tools and fonts to use on this. With the main image being centered I changed the shadow amount and contrast of the image and also using the burn tool around her eyes to make them stand out which I think gives the effect of darkness, all of the different techniques and effects worked well together as it adds to the genre of horror, which then shows clearly to the viewer what 'The Senseless' is all about. I created this front cover whilst looking and referring to the real Empire Magazine that is sold in shops at the moment. I used the same layout of the magazine for example making the image centered and placing the writing on either side of the image and also how the free-bees are placed near the bottom of the front cover, as well as sticking to the colour scheme of red white and black. I think the ending product is very good and effective as is it is eye catching and welcoming to readers as it brings them in with the clearly shown free products inside.

These are the different stages.

Also I added in another free-bee, which is the poster I created for 'The Senseless', which I thought would be a good and creative way to add both together in one.

Then I added in a free-bee which attracts the readers attention into buying the magazine.

Then I added the bar-code in the bottom right hand corner, as I think this is the most appropriate place for it to go.

Then I inserted all of the text and the lines which split each section up from each other. I used the color scheme of red and white for the text but using a back and blue background which all relate to the color scheme of the real Empire Magazine.

From their I inserted the main information which includes the website, the main fact and the issue date and price. I did this in the color white so it stand out from the dark background.

I changed it by cropping the image down, so the model stands out more and is the main focus, as well as creating the EMPIRE text.

This is the original image I used.
This is the original Empire Magazine that I refereed to whilst putting together my final magazine.

Magazine Photos

These are the final images I took on the day of filming for my magazine. I think these images came out really well and look very effective because of the lighting, we used a torch and placed it around her body as then she is the main focus and stands out from the surroundings.

^^

This is the image I have chosen to use for my magazine as I think it is the better image out of the set of images.

Filming

From the first time we tried to film we realised that the first idea wasn't possible, so as a group we decided on changing the idea to something more simple but yet still as effective in the genre of horror. The idea we came up with for the second filming is that, a young adult is babysitting for her parents friends daughter, whilst through out the night she is getting terrorised. We chose this as it seems innocent and is a good story line as many viewers could relate to the feeling of being alone. We filmed on the 25Th January in James's house, with Daisy Milton being the main character and James Pemberton stepped in and acted out the dark figure lurking around. After we finished, I believe that it was a successful evening, capturing most of what we needed to do. As well as filming we took photos for our second ancillary task, creating a magazine front cover.

Here is a few photos of us filming.

This image here is James filming and me doing the sound, picking up every noise that was created.

This image here shows me recording whilst James is doing the sound.

This image shows me recording again but using the stand, and positioning myself correctly.

This image shows Abbie recording.

This last image shows clearly my using the sound equipment.

Poster

FINAL. This is the final and improved poster that I created I think that it is effective and clearly relates to the teaser trailer. used different effect on the main image which is the model, darkening the eyes gives the more effective look of horror and most of all make it look more scary. The way in which the opacity of the model is lowered you can see the old looking house through her, I think this gives off a sensitive emotion towards the girl as people can see through her, which links in with the teaser trailer, messing around with her and taking her for a fool. 'The senseless' is placed at the top of the poster where it stand out and eye catching. The use of the words "You're Never Alone" is because this represents the whole meaning of the teaser trailer, in a way that the character is never alone, I believe this will make the audience feel vulnerable and will attract them into watching the over all trailer. Also I decided to get rid of showing the actaul date and replacing it with 'coming soon' as it adds to the effect the viewer has towards the poster and would make them feel more interested in the whole poster as well as the trailer.

This is the first mock up of the final poster, I have done this to see what the final will look like, and what can be improved to make it look more effective.

These are the stages through photo shop I did, making it is to the size of A4. I started off with making the clouds filling up the whole of the whole of A4 adding a different layer each time. As well as on layer 3 I photo shopped the necklace the model was wearing, out.

These are the original photos I took and used to create my poster. I wanted to create an scary ending poster so using a old looking house as well as the main character and dark clouds surrounding the image. Overall I think these image together Will create an effective and clear poster.
